Lyndsey Baigent, Fonder of Essentially for Women
About you and your business
As a mother of 2 beautiful girls one of whom is autistic, I appreciate firsthand the challenges women face juggling the many roles of mother, wife, daughter, business woman, lover, friend, taxi driver and that’s just to name a few! In the midst of all the chaos it’s no wonder that at times we feel frustrated and overwhelmed.
The challenge is that when we don’t acknowledge our feelings it's easy to develop unhealthy addictions as a means to cope under stress. When it comes to this topic I have to say, I’ve been there and done that! Food, alcohol & gambling became a way for me to cope when the stress became too much and before I knew it I found myself fat, broke & desperate to reclaim my life.
To the outside world I was a strong competent woman who had created a very successful business in the direct selling industry, enjoyed overseas holidays and a company car yet behind closed doors I was falling apart. Working in the direct selling industry I met literally thoughts of women and I soon began to realise that I wasn’t alone, in fact there were lots of women out there in emotional crisis just as I was. As part of my recovery, I made a promise to myself that if I could turn my own life around I would dedicate my time to helping other women create greater levels of happiness in their lives than they ever dreamed possible. I figured if I could do then anyone could and so Essentially for Women was born.
What have been the highlights and challenges of your business?
Having the opportunity to support women on their journey through life is an absolute privilege, I treasure each and every moment. I can honestly say I’m living my dream and the joy I feel as a result overcomes any challenge.
If I had to choose one though, I’d say marketing with a small budget has always been the most challenging yet it’s simply driven me to become very creative and great at bartering!
