Increased interest rates, a rise in the cost of living and soaring petrol prices, the modern day Mum is pushed to return to work. From caregiver to bread winner what is the true cost for women juggling multiple roles? Although women are more empowered than ever before, how far can a woman be stretched? What happens when the tension is too much? Are women emotionally equipped to cope with the pressures of this new mandate?
Lyndsey Baigent mother of 2 is one woman who understands the emotional anguish and stress that encumbers today’s modern Mum. Having worked in the direct selling industry for 6 years she has seen first hand the challenges women experience balancing family and career. Over the years Lyndsey has met thousands of women through the direct selling industry and whilst the faces are different the stories are very similar. “There are many women out there putting on a brave face but underneath it all they are unhappy and struggling to cope”. I recognise the signs so easily because I was one of these women”, says Lyndsey.
Striving to succeed in business and raising a child with special needs certainly took its toll with Lyndsey succumbing to a life of addiction as a way of coping. During her years as an addict she estimates her gambling losses to be in excess of $200,000, her cigarette consumption at 20-40 cigarettes a day topped off with a bottle or two of wine 4 to 5 times a week.
“I have been to hell and back over the past few years, with my addictions nearly costing me everything”. On her path to recovery Lyndsey identified a lack of preventative support for women to ensure they did not fall victim to such addictive and soul destroying traps in life. Lyndsey established Essentially for Women as a direct result of her own personal life experience, she states “I consider myself one of the lucky ones I found the courage to fight back and reclaim my life”. My goal now is to help other women avoid slipping through the cracks, as I did. The rising levels of obesity, alcoholism and drug addition in females indicates women are in desperate need of a little emotional rescue. Even celebrities are not immune from the traps of addiction, with recent reports of Angelina Jolie who is struggling to manage her weight and wellbeing with the death of her mother and coping with a career and motherhood. Through Essentially for Women Lyndsey is leading the way helping women to take a proactive approach. “It is so much easier to take care of ourselves in the first place, rather than pick up the pieces when we don’t”, she admits.
Essentially for Women provides a wide range of services assisting women both in their personal and professional lives through their membership programme. “Women have always loved to look their best”, says Lyndsey “now is their chance to feel their best too”.
Finally there is help at hand for women suffering from the realities of their role in our modern day society. Essentially for Women, changing the lives of women across the country.
